|II Liga Żużlowa: KS Stokłosa Polonia Piła - ZKS Ostrovia Ostrów Wlkp. - zapowiedź meczu|
|Wpisany przez Tomasz Górzny|
Winter has come to an end giving speedway fans a chance to enjoy the best sports discipline in the whole world. The new Stokłosa Polonia Piła team is starting their new 2nd division season hosting strong Ostrovia Ostrów Wielkopolski led by former Piła rider - Alex Charczenko. The exciting meeting starts on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
The Ostrovia sent a line-up that will probobly be modified before the meeting starts. At number 2 we've got 21 years old Ostrów native - Emil Idziorek, who spent his last season racing for Orzeł Łódź. He didn't have many opportunities to present his talent there as the Łódź team was very strong last year and Emil raced in couple of matches only. He's known for his character and valour, but many experts expect that he'll be replaced by Adrian Gomólski, who has come to Ostrów from his home town - Gniezno. He was racing for Ostrów for two seasons. The first one was outstanding. In 2009, however, he suffered from a serious crash and severe injury that stopped his career for a wild. He had a decent year back in 2010 racing for Gniezno and he'll be a great addition to the Ostrovia team this season. On the other had, he hasn't raced much so far this year dealing with some minor health problems. Another former Ostrów rider, who came back to the squard is a Silesian - Mariusz Węgrzyk. "Mario", as they call him, was also a star of KM Ostrów a few years ago. After that, he decided to return (via Wrocław) to the city where he grew up - Rybnik. That was an awful decision, because he didn't race much for ROW RKM. Moreover, his last season ended with a scandal. The Rybnik team authorities accused Mariusz of not fulfiling the contract and they have broken it off. The case was recently examined by Główna Komisja Sportu Żużlowego and the decision is that Rybnik owes a big amount of money to Węgrzyk. - We're going to Piła to win. That is our goal - says former Betard Wrocław rider in a interview for Ostrów team website. Both, Gomólski and Węgrzyk are sponsored by Auto Partner Jan i Andrzej Garcarek and the riders honestly say that it is mostly because of this that they joined Jan Grabowski team before 2011 season. The biggest attraction for Piła fans would be to see their former hero - Aleksiej Charczenko, who was adored by them in the past two years. "Alex" had a hard decison to make during the winter. He loved racing for Polonia, but the financial problems of Polonia forced him to make a heartbreaking decision of leaving the team and finally signing with Ostrów. The Russian has had a rough start of the season having massive problems with finding the right engine set up. Even the manager Grabowski has said this week that he's not satisfied with his foreign riders, including Charczenko. Ostrów got beaten heavily yesterday in Zielona Góra 20:70 racing on a grippy track which they expect to see in Piła on Sunday.
The locals lost a few very important riders during the winter. We've already mentioned Charczenko, but the fans also regret that they're not going to see captain Piotr Świst and Britain's Simon Stead. The former signed with Ukrainian Kaskad Równe, the latter joined Lublin. It's a pity, but we also have to remember that Polonia had big financial problems earlier in the pre-season and the future of the team was in danger. Fortunately, the club management found a sponsor and some interesting riders. In a friendly match yesterday we had an opportunity to see them all in action. Among all of them it is former Polonia rider - Mariusz Franków, who made the biggest possitive impression on the supporters. It was the old "Franek" fast at the tapes that we all wish to see this season. It is also very likely that Aussie Jason Doyle will be a great addition to the team. He still tries to figure out the track mysteries, but such an experienced rider is what we were looking for as a substitution for Piła'a beloved - "Steady". Last but not least, there is Paweł Staszek - a very solid rider, who has always raced well in Piła. Moreover, his style reminds of our living legend - The Professor from Oxford Hans Nielsen.
We expect the Sunday meeting to be very tough as the Ostrów team are not hiding their high aspirations. Polonia, however, for the first time since long ago is starting the season financially safe. The Piła riders can finally focus only on racing without thinking when the payment comes. The Grudziądz friendly match showed the potential of the team, so we bet that manager's Piotr Szymko team will defeat Ostrovia.
